Sprung From Our Lawns (POEM)
Years. Without a snowstorm to suffice.
Then snow came and came in a year
where the snow wouldn’t then go away.
And We the Children cheered!
Snow unlike snows before. Snows before,
that knew their place. And time! And late April
was a time. And North Carolina was the place.
Snow there grasped the ground and the grass
as if it feared a permanency to its demise.
As if it had never heard the tale of Frosty.
And how he’d be “back again someday!’
But then an orange, a lavender, a yellow crocus
Thither and yon sprung from our lawns.
And soon after, amidst a patch of croci stood
Just the prettiest little white-spotted fawn.
