The Car Ride (POEM)
It’s 5 am with 5 miles to go. Windows down. Cold wind in my face. Try to stay awake. Running on empty. Down this lonesome highway. On autopilot. Being guided home on a wing and a prayer. By the ghosts who haunt my dreams. Drive with the radio crackling to keep me company as stars stab at the edge of my windshield. Angels of the highway take care of fools and students who pull all-nighters.
in the heat of the moment
the road curves
spinning wheels keep on turning
